How can share prices go up or down drastically after closing of market ?
Two sub questions. 1) If no trading is going on after closure of market, what makes the prices change ? 2) Why can’t upper or lower circuit help the prices not to change drastically, like it happened to BSE share of Zee News (532794) yesterday ?
If you mean why closing price is not next day’s opening price, then that’s because all brokers are flooded with transaction orders even after closure of trading hours and the moment market opens next day, at the click of the mouse the whole picture changes in market. besides, except Z and T stocks all other stocks ( and that’s majority) are allowed to settle positions next 2 days and the way they are settled by transacting/ordering with the brokers, makes a lot of change in opening prices.
second question is more important, and to the best of my knowledge circuit filter works during trading hours and if you have experienced drastic unacceptable changes overnight, then that means it goes blind. why SEBI quiet ? my experience says, such things do reflect in early morning trade from opening prices( because the market is what it is ) onwards and then circuit filters takes care. in very rare cases this may not happen.

After the wall is repainted, Zee decides to repeat the vandalism, but this time with more artistic flair. A store owner catches him in the act and threatens to call the police-unless Zee agrees to repair the damage.
